Shreyas Rao is a Pelotonia Graduate Fellow in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. Shreyas joined the Winter Lab in the autumn of 2007. As an undergraduate research associate at R.V College of Engineering, he has worked on semiconductor mediated photo catalytic degradation of toxic complex organic substances. He also studied the development and characterization of polyelectrolyte multilayered thin films for applications such as drug delivery systems as an Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Young Engineering Fellow. Shreyas is a recipient of Gold Medal in his Bachelor’s degree, Best Outgoing Student Award and Award for Academic Excellence at R. V. College of Engineering.
Shreyas’s current work involves investigating cell-material interactions using tissue mimetic polymeric materials such as hydrogels and electrospun fibers. Specifically, he is interested in understanding brain tumors using neural tissue mimetics (e.g., hyaluronic acid). The ultimate goal of his work is to develop an in vitro model of the brain to evaluate tumor cell migration in a setting that closely approximates the in vivo environment.
